The Montrose Shopping Park Association was formed in 1968 for the primary purpose of representing the interests of the then "newly created" Montrose Shopping Park. Since 1973, the Montrose Shopping Park Association has administrated the Business Improvement District known to most locals simply as "Montrose."
Sometimes confused with the local chamber of commerce, the Montrose Shopping Park Association administrates the district by contract with the City of Glendale. The 200 businesses located within the geographic boundaries of the shopping area have voted to assess themselves annually in order to promote the district with advertising, physical improvements to the district, community service, public events and by means of neighborhood advocacy.
In the last three years, the Montrose Shopping Park Association has brought a new focus on the history of the area, often by partnering with the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley. In keeping with the traditions of the local area, the Montrose Shopping Park Association installed the new Montrose Town Clock, the National Flag Week Plaque, the soon to be installed Century of Commerce Monument, the annual Christmas Lights enjoyed by thousands of residents and non-residents alike from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year's Day and is responsible for bringing about the historic streetlight and sidewalk renovation project.
In addition to paying the rent and utilities for our local COPPS Substation and providing funds to maintain the Vietnam War Memorial, the Montrose Shopping Park Association is perhaps best known for the many public events it sponsors, including the Montrose Arts & Crafts Festival, the Montrose Harvest Market, Founders Day, the Independence Weekend Block Party & Hot Rod Show, Kids 'n Kritters Day, the Montrose Invitational Classic Car Show, the Montrose Halloween Spooktacular and the Montrose Old Town Christmas complete with its antique horse-drawn trolley and the annual Montrose Christmas Parade.
